Des Moines Thunderstorm
June 27, 2008, Ricky McFarland captures a thunderstorm two miles SW of Des Moines. At the time of the picture baseball sized hail was reported falling from storm.
Waterloo Iowa - Floods of 2008
Home in the San Souci area June 10, 2008. Though dozens of people attempted to sandbag the east side of the island, a sandbag dike gave way at approximately 9:30 p.m. and residents were advised by authorities to evacuate the area.
Parkersburg Iowa Tornado

- Ryan Lehms : Ha. I know that Kenny. Just felt like sharing at the time. On another note, the regional radar is showing an insane OFB being created. Looks like a giant shockwave or something. Might have to grab this one.
- Josh Richard : Yeah Ryan, they changed it sometime this season.
- Joe : Just a point of clarification on my earlier post. Sirens were sounded in the Okoboji area. My understanding now is that Emergency Management will do that when high winds, in this case 60 mph, are expected. This is to warn tourists and boaters. There was not a tornado.
- kennyg : We went from 89 degrees to 69 degrees in a matter of minutes when that storm come through. Picked up alomst a half inch of rain here in Iowa Falls.
- kennyg : I don't issue warnings Ryan... hee hee. No, all of the watches/warnings that appear here are issued by the NWS.
- Ryan Lehms : I think I have too. Daryl must have updated it recently though. Has it always been that fancy? I'm used to the text only version. Clicking on the links and whatnot with the visuals. Pretty sweet stuff.
- Josh Richard : Yeah, I mentioned the IEMBOT a long time ago as a source to use.
- Ryan Lehms : «link» pretty good data source for reports. Select Des Moines or whatever on the left and click ok to monitor.
- Michael : one of the website stations in Traer just reported 48mph winds and temps went from mid 90s to 70s in a matter of minutes. winds also went from south to west. Rain rates of 2 to 2.50 per hour
- Ryan Lehms : Just got a public report of one on the ground out near Waterloo. Can't confirm anything. Take it with a grain of salt.

- Ryan Lehms : There's gotta be some decent hail in there. The reflectivity behind the squall isn't showing up on KFSD's BR248 scan.
- Ryan Lehms : VIL doesn't look too bad on the southern cells. I'm not seeing any TBSSs though yet.
