| Tracking The Storm: Snow Starts Today, End Tuesday |
|
Iowa's next round of winter is already here as a new system pushes into the state Sunday morning and won't exit until Tuesday. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch in effect from Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon. Light snow is expected to spread northwest to southeast across Iowa today, increase in intensity tonight, and then peak from Monday into early Tuesday morning. An extended period with variable snow intensities, with the highest snowfall rates Monday into early Tuesday morning, could produce 6 to 11 inches of snow before the accumulations diminish later Tuesday. Winds and visibility, wind will not be a major problem until Tuesday when speeds are expected to increase from the northwest at 20 mph with gusts to 25 or 30 mph at times. This will cause significant reductions in visibility due to blowing and drifting snow. Impacts, travel will become increasingly challenging for the area Monday and Monday night, and especially Tuesday with the added problem of blowing snow. A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations that may impact travel. In this case snow and blowing snow will be the main concerns. |
