| Heavy wet snow creates slick roads in Quad Cities |
|
QUAD CITIES, Iowa/Ill. - The heavy wet snow is causing the roads to be very slick and crews in many parts of the Quad Cities are working late Sunday night to clear the roads. Sunday evening's snow was heavy and wet because temperatures were around the freezing/thawing point. That means people are sliding on streets and having to take it slow. All the Quad Cities have full crews out Sunday. In Davenport, that means about 30 trucks out salting and plowing routes, and In Bettendorf, its about 10 trucks working towards their bare pavement standard. On the Illinois side, Moline has 15 trucks out making sure to salt intersection and hills. Crews will continue this for 24 hours until snow stops and things are cleared. Rock island has about 13 trucks out focusing on main routes. If you live in Davenport, routes have changed from focusing just on main streets when snow starts. Now crews are getting more residential streets in and its dropped complaints during snows like this...From 400 down to about 40. There were some minor accidents sunday because cars are having trouble stopping especially at intersections. In Moline, a plow truck was even hit after a car slid into it, so if you don't have to go out tonight it's recommended you stay inside, or give yourself plenty of stopping room. |
