Forecast calls for warmer weather, less snow
Some good news is on its way for Iowans frustrated by this year’s winter weather.

First: it’s going to get warmer. Second: no more snow … at least for a while.

Temperatures will begin to rise starting today into the weekend with highs forecasted into the 30s for Des Moines and most of central Iowa, according to the National Weather Service.

“We should start to see a trend to our normal temperature levels, possibly below normal for precipitation,” said National Weather Service meteorologist John Hinsberger.

Des Moines' normal high is 39 degrees, The normal low is 21 degrees, he said.

Less snow is also on the way.

“We are not expecting any snow over the course of the next week. We will see some light flurries today, but that shouldn’t accumulate too much, if anything,” Hinsberger said.

But don’t put away the shovel and snowblower just yet.

“For now we won’t see too much more in the way of snow, but we could still see some snow storms in March, even as late as April,” he said.

Today, expect mostly cloudy skies with highs ranging from 22 to 32 across the state, Hinsberger said. A high of 30 is expected in Des Moines. Temperatures, though, will drop tonight with lows forecasted around zero to 10 degrees with colder temps in eastern and central parts of the state. Lows of 8 to 18 degrees are expected to the west, he said.

Things will warm back up tomorrow with highs ranging from 24 to 34 degrees. Lows Saturday night and Sunday morning of zero to 5 degrees are expected to the northwest and in the teens to the east and in Des Moines. Sunday, expect highs of 25 to 35 degrees, Hinsberger said.

On Monday, lows will be 8 to 12 degrees northwest and 18 to 23 in eastern and central Iowa, with highs 24 to 34 degrees, according to the weather service.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
