March Proclaimed Flood Awareness Month
DES MOINES (AP) - Iowa Gov. Chet Culver has proclaimed March Flood Awreness Month in an effort to educate state residents about flood insurance and other disaster precautions.

In making the proclamation on Thursday, Culver noted flood awareness is particularly important since Iowa is still recovering from the 2008 floods.

Culver says what happened in 2008 has made most aware of the need to be prepared.

According to state officials, the Rebuild Iowa Office, the Iowa Insurance Division, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division will share flood-related information and safety tips with the public.

Rebuild Iowa Office Executive Director Lt. General Ron Dardis says the proclamation is a call to action that state must "be prepared for when, not if, the next disaster strikes."
