Storm cuts swath of damage from northeast S.D. to northern Iowa |
|
High winds and rain swept through South Dakota and points east in a weekend storm that flooded streets, pelted farms with hail and caused campers to flee for cover.
Charles Mack, 64, a retired implement dealer in Clark, picked up 3-inch hailstones in his back yard after the storm passed through his northeast South Dakota community. The hailstones smashed windows and damaged roofs, crops and vehicles, but he heard of no injuries.
“Those things would knock you senseless if they hit you,” Mack said.
Brookings had 1.48 inches of rain in an hour Saturday night, flooding streets. A tornado touched down near Lake Wilson, Minn. The Iowa Great Lakes had wind gusts reaching 100 mph, said Brad Temeyer, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls.
